Early life [edit]
Born on November 11, 195? in Babylon, Alabama[1], Day is the third out of four children born to Janice Day (née Dobson), a nurse, and Thomas Day, a pilot in the United States Air Force. She has a very strong religious background, due to her Baptist upbringing and familial roots in the church. Her grandmother, Loretta Dobson, gave Daphne her first-ever vocal lesson (although she has been quoted stating that “Daphne didn’t need much training") [verification needed]. She quickly became a mainstay in the First Ebenezer Baptist Church choir, spending most of her free time in her youth practicing hymns.
Career [edit]
Early career and rise to fame [edit]
Day began her career as a model, and was discovered while pursuing a degree in fashion illustration. After school, Day moved from Alabama to New York to pursue acting and modeling full-time. After seeing success after appearing as "Beauty of The Week" in Shades Magazine, Day eventually became a model for Shades and Sepia, another African-American entertainment magazine. Her first singing gig was at a nightclub in Sugarville, Harlem, where blues/jazz singer Nina Lou Baker offered her an opening act slot to sing. In 1974 Day moved to Los Santos, California, originally performing as a back-up vocalist for artists such as Betty Cole, Nina Lou Baker, and Freddie Robinson. After appearing as herself in For Love of Lola, Day quickly became a star, appearing in a majority of director Daniel Davis’ “horror renaissance” string of film projects. Her most notable roles included Pam Edwards in My Bloody Valentine, Sheila Samuels in Heaven's Gate (1976), and Save Your Soul (1977). Audiences and agencies alike enjoyed her screen presence so much that she quickly secured small roles in television, namely the family sitcoms Everyone Loves the Jeffersons, and Joyful Days.

Betrayal [edit]
The "80 Hour Engagement" Controversy [edit]
Day later crossed paths with Freddie Robinson again while on the set of For Love of Lola, where Day appeared as herself. The two quickly developed a romantic relationship and began seeing each other off-set. The two were engaged a year and a half later in 1977, until a mutual cheating scandal separated the pair – Robinson was seen frequenting bars and nightclubs with other prominent film actresses, and rumors of Day having a “close and intimate” relationship with a fellow backup singer NAME SURNAME began to swirl around their respective studios.

Following the cheating scandal, Robinson faced no repercussions to his career after the tabloids found their next topic, but because Day was rumored to be romantically involved with a woman, she was briefly blackballed from the entertainment industry.Day's public image changed in an instant – and the chance at a rare sighting of the film star only made her more sought after by paparazzi and fans.Day became a recluse for the next several few years, not appearing back in the public eye for over a decade. She was first seen in public again at an award show premiere wearing a black, floor length gown, posing with her long-rumored partner, NAME SURNAME by her side. Although never officially declared, this moment served as a public announcement of the pair’s relationship.
